KNDU-TV in the Tri-Cities will broadcast their hydro preview show that will feature some of the dramatic onboard video shot during the crash of the U-37 in Detroit. This will be the first time the footage has been seen outside of the Detroit area.
Tonight, we will post the footage of the entire heat from the three HD cameras that were riding on the boat. Come back around 6:00PM PDT for the links to the video…
Based on the reaction to the pictures we’ve posted from the onboard cameras aboard the U-37, we’re curious if you think they should be REQUIRED for all Unlimited hydroplanes in competition as a judging tool and as a way to promote the sport of Unlimited hydroplane racing?
RESULTS:
In a one day period, the results came back 100% in favor of onboard cameras being REQUIRED for ALL Unlimited hydroplanes! Here are some of the comments:
The U-37 with JW Myers at the wheel took third place honors at the 2009 Chevrolet Cup in Seattle, WA. This clip graphically shows how amazingly violent a modern Unlimited hydroplane really is on the driver…
JW Myers took a pounding in Heat 3B at the 2009 Chevrolet Cup in Seattle, WA. Note the hit that dislodged his facemask and the physical exertion it takes to muscle the U-37 around the Lake Washington course…
J.W. Myers in the U-37 ran deck to deck with Steve David in the U-1 Oh Boy! Oberto for the majority of Heat 3B before finally slipping to second place.

Jean Theoret came back from a near-death experience in Madison to take the U-37 around the Lake Washington course at Seafair. Unfortunately he had not healed sufficiently to allow him to continue, and after this heat, handed off the driving duties to J.W. Myers for the remainder of the weekend.

J.W. Myers replaced Jean Theoret in the cockpit of the U-37 for the Lamb Weston Columbia Cup. Theoret flipped the Schumacher Racing unlimited in Madison, almost drowning in the overturned boat. Myers hustled the U-37 to a fourth place finish in this heat.
