U-37 Miss Peters & May heads to the start of the Oryx Cup

U-37 Miss Peters & May heads to the start of the Oryx Cup

Although we didn’t come away with any hardware, the U-37 Miss Peters & May made it into and finished yet another final heat at the Oryx Cup UIM World Championship in Doha. JW Myers fought Brian Perkins all the way around the course for the entire race, but received a one lap penalty for jumping the gun and finished seventh.

That we made it into the final was once again a tribute to the best crew in Unlimited Hydroplane racing, led by Scott Raney, once again working their magic to get the old Leland hull ready and willing to compete AND return to the dock in every single heat!

Just like clockwork, JDub took the U-37 Miss Peters & May out for heats 3B and 4A and once more came back with decent finishes: third place in Heat 3B and fourth in Heat 4A, guaranteeing our shot at the final heat in the Oryx Cup.

U-37 Miss Peters & May in Heat 1A

The day started with gearbox problems in testing, when JW went out but never completed a lap and had to be towed back in. A change of the gearbox got us ready for Heat 1A, where JDub follwed the U-1  Oh Boy! Oberto and the U-5 Formulaboats.com home in third.

Heat 2B was a carbon copy, with the U-37 trailing the  same boats to the same result. JDub looks like he was never away from the driver’s seat, and he’s  getting everything there is out of the old Leland hull and then some.

Most of the team is leaving today (11/15) for the 36 hour journey to the Oryx Cup UIM World Championship in Doha.  The first part of the flight is 5 hours to Houston, then another 14 1/2 hours in the air (23 1/2 hours total with time changes!) to Doha, where we’ll be set up and ready to go on Wednesday. We’ll have everyone there by Thursday.

The U-37 Miss Peters & May is in the temporary pits in Doha (left) and looking good in the sun!

There will be much more to come as we make our way to the Middle East – stay tuned!
